How To Effect A Data Partition Recovery
Data partition recovery is not as hard as it may sound, just so long as you know what you are doing. The first point to note is that when a file is deleted from the system, by the emptying of the Recycle Bin, that file has not completely disappeared. There is no erasure of the data from the hard drive. All that happens is that the files which point to that data are erased from the operating system, so that the files no longer show up. Partitions on a hard drive operate in a fundamentally similar way.
There is one abiding consideration which must be followed every time you face a situation where data has been apparently lost. That is not to panic, and not to do anything which could change the contents of the drive as they now are. At the time you notice that the file or partition has gone, all of the data will still be there. It must be, as nothing will have been done to add new data to overwrite it. This situation changes as soon as anything else is added to the disk.
At this point, the old data risks being overwritten. As soon as a file is deleted by the emptying of the Recycle Bin, it is no longer regarded as relevant by the operating system. Although the data remains on the drive, it is regarded as open space available for rewriting. As soon as new data comes in, it will overwrite what was in its place before. If you do not already have the software utility you need on your hard drive, you will need to download it to another computer and then transfer it to a flash drive, to avoid overwriting crucial files on the original hard drive.
Partitions operate in pretty much the same way. Although the operating system no longer recognizes them once they have been erased, they still exist on the hard drive. Files which are effectively invisible to the operating system are still perfectly visible to programs which have been specially designed to seek them out. As long as you have not made any changes to the original hard drive, you should have easy access to your seemingly lost files.
The most important consideration is to get the files saved to a flash drive as quickly as possible. Preserve your data before you try to repair whatever the fault has been with the operating system. If you don't have the knowledge to do this yourself, you can always get help from an online forum. There are many conscientious helpers on these forums who are happy to give free advice to people struggling with technology. If you need a quicker solution, you can always pay a professional. They will be used to carrying out a re-partitioning, and can complete your data partition recovery.
